Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type
Blood type O – Eat meat; moderate fat; limit grains/cereals, legumes, and dairy; wheat-free. Similar to paleo, low-carb, and gluten-free diets.
Blood type A – Low/no animal protein including dairy; moderate fat; moderate-high grains/cereals and legumes; no wheat. Similar to macrobiotic, vegetarian, and vegan diets plus wheat-free.
Blood type B – Moderate animal protein including dairy; moderate fat; moderate grains/cereals and legumes; wheat okay if not whole grain. Does not line up with any currently popular diets.
Blood type AB – Low-moderate animal protein including dairy but avoiding red meat; moderate fat; low-moderate grains/cereals and legumes; wheat considered neutral.
Does not line up with any currently popular diets, although there is some similarity to the Mediterranean diet.
Portion size recommendations vary by ancestry – different suggested portion sizes for African, Caucasian, and Asian ethnicities.
Below is a description of the food recommendations in the diet.
The reasoning behind Eat Right For Your Type
This book claims that people with different blood types have different reactions to foods and should eat according to their blood type. Your blood type controls the influence of viruses, bacteria, infections, chemicals, stress, and the entire assortment of invaders and conditions that might compromise your immune system. Different blood types have different antigens and create different antibodies.
A chemical reaction occurs between your blood and the foods you eat – lectins, abundant and diverse proteins in foods, have agglutinating properties that affect your blood. When you eat a food containing protein lectins that are incompatible with your blood type antigen, the lectins target an organ or bodily system (kidneys, liver, brain, stomach, etc.) and begin to agglutinate blood cells in that area.
Once the intact lectin proteins settle someplace in your body, they clump the cells in that region together and they are targeted for destruction as if they were foreign invaders. This clumping can cause irritable bowel syndrome in the intestines or cirrhosis in the liver, or block the flow of blood through the kidneys, to name just a few of the effects. They often create violent inflammation. Lectins in your system can be measured using the Indican Scale.
Follow the diet for your personal blood type.
The portion suggestions according to ancestry are not meant as firm rules; the purpose is to present a way to fine-tune your diet even more, according to what is known about the particulars of your ancestry. There are also geographic and cultural variations. Use the refinements if you think they’re helpful; ignore them if you find that they’re not; in any case, try to formulate your own plan for portion sizes.
Don’t just eat the Highly Beneficial foods and ignore the Neutral foods, as you probably won’t get the full range of nutrients needed for a healthy diet. A better approach is to eliminate all the foods on your Avoid list and reduce or eliminate those Neutral foods that are prone to cause weight gain for your blood type.
Unless you suffer from a specific allergic condition, it won’t hurt most people to occasionally eat a food that is marked Poison on their diet.
The diets are very different from each other – the only commonalities found in the book were: portion size recommendations for fruit; unsprouted wheat being viewed unfavorably; and olive oil being a highly beneficial food for all.
Blood type 0 food list
Type O (“The Hunter”) is the oldest blood type, from around 40,000 years ago. At this time, humans succeeded by being at the top of the food chain, the most dangerous predators on earth. They began to hunt in organized packs; in a short time, they were able to make weapons and use tools. These major advances gave them strength and superiority.
Humans thrived on meat, and as they killed off the big game within their hunting range they started to migrate to all corners of the earth. Searching each new area for anything edible, it is likely that the carnivorous humans quickly became omnivorous, with a mixed diet of berries, grubs, nuts, roots, and small animals. Populations also thrived along the coastlines and the teeming lakes and rivers of the earth where fish and other food were abundant.
45% percent of people in the U.S. have Type O blood. This percentage is higher among Hispanics and African Americans.
- These people thrive on meat and need enough oils
Limit grains/cereals, dairy
Wheat-free, practically gluten-free
Like paleo diets and some low carb diets but less strict
See below for blood type O portion sizes.

Blood type A food list
Type A (“The Cultivator”) is an agrarian blood type, which appeared between 25,000 and 15,000 BC. Agriculture and animal domestication were the hallmarks of this culture. The cultivation of grains and livestock changed everything. Able to forego their hand-to-mouth existence and sustain themselves for the first time, people established stable communities and permanent living structures.
This radically different lifestyle, a major change in diet and environment, resulted in an entirely new mutation in the digestive tracts and the immune systems of the Neolithic peoples – a mutation that allowed them to better tolerate and absorb cultivated grains and other agricultural products. Type A emerged as more resistant to infections common to densely populated areas.
40% of people in the USA have type A blood.

Blood type B food list
Type B (“The Nomad”) is a nomadic blood type, developed between 10,000 and 15,000 BC in the Himalayan highlands, now part of present-day Pakistan and India. Pushed from the hot, lush savannahs of eastern Africa to the cold, unyielding highlands of the Himalayas, blood type B may have initially mutated in response to climactic changes.
This new blood type was soon characteristic of the great tribes of steppe dwellers such as the Mongolians, who dominated the Eurasian plains. Their culture depended upon herding and domesticating animals, with a diet of meat and cultured dairy products. These people tolerate a variety of foods.
11% of people in the USA have blood type B

Blood type AB food list
Type AB (“The Enigma”) emerged from the intermingling of type A Caucasians with type B Mongolians, starting about 1,000 years ago. It is a modern blood type, rare (found in less than 5% of the population). This blood type has a number of immune characteristics that make it multifaceted, a merger between the tolerant type A and the more balanced type B, and they are less likely to be prone to allergies and other autoimmune diseases such as arthritis, inflammation, and lupus; however they have a greater disposition to some cancers.
4% of people in the USA have blood type AB
