The Reason Why Your Serotonin Is Low Causing You Depression and Anxiety

Serotonin is involved with a person’s mood changes. If there is a problem with serotonin, it can affect your mood, behavior, and many other things. SSRIs are a class of medications. This type of medication is one of the most common treatments for low serotonin. However, SSRIs come with unwanted side effects, including suicidal thoughts, sexual dysfunction, and more. Another big side effect of SSRIs is discontinuation syndrome, which is basically withdrawal. So, what causes a serotonin deficiency?

Well, 95% of the serotonin in your body is made by the good bacteria in your gut. The microbiome is a huge part of a person’s health and the ability to make neurotransmitters. If there is something wrong with your gut bacteria, you’re going to have a problem with serotonin. I believe a huge potential cause of low serotonin is glyphosate. Glyphosate is one of the most common herbicides. There is some interesting research related to glyphosate and lowered serotonin. When serotonin is at normal levels, you feel more focused, emotionally stable, happier and calmer. Low levels of serotonin are associated with depression. Many medications used to treat anxiety, depression and other mood disorders often target ways to increase the level of serotonin in your brain.

People who feel unusually irritable or down for no apparent reason may have low serotonin levels.

Depression: Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and anger, as well as chronic fatigue and thoughts of suicide, may indicate depression.

Anxiety: Low serotonin levels cause anxiety. Furthermore, certain drugs and substances such as caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, NutraSweet, antidepressants, and some cholesterol-lowering medications deplete serotonin and other neurotransmitter levels. Hormone changes cause low levels of serotonin and neurotransmitter imbalances.

What to do for low serotonin:

1. Consume organic, non-GMO foods and grass-fed, grass-finished meats

2. Avoid common foods that are heavily sprayed (soy, corn, wheat, sugar, and seed oils)

3. Consume probiotic foods

4. Consume more vegetables

5. Get plenty of sun exposure

6. Exercise

7. Do keto and intermittent fasting

8. Take apple cider vinegar regularly (1 Tbsp in a glass of water)

Serotonin…

• Raises mood

• Calms the mind

• Increases focus

• Reduces anxiety

A deficiency in serotonin can cause:

• A lowered mood

• Depression

• Anxiety

• Irritability

• Low self-esteem

• Insomnia

• Memory loss

The question is, what are the overall best ways (besides those mentioned above) to boost your serotonin? You can boost your serotonin naturally with these six tips!

1. Take L-tryptophan on an empty stomach (converts to serotonin)

2. Exercise (increases the conversation from tryptophan to serotonin)

3. Sun/vitamin D (Increases conversation from tryptophan to serotonin)

4. Probiotics, including kimchi and sauerkraut (increases tryptophan in the gut)

5. Massage (increases serotonin and lowers cortisol)

6. Fasting (significantly increases serotonin levels)

Vitamins and Minerals That Increase Serotonin
  • Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) must be present to facilitate the conversion of either 5-HTP or tryptophan into serotonin. …
  • Folic Acid (vitamin B9) …
  • Vitamin C. …
  • Vitamin D. …
  • Magnesium. …
  • Zinc.

If your mood is feeling low, try starting with intermittent fasting and see if your mood doesn’t improve! Let me know how it works for you in the comments below.
